Frequently Asked Questions
What can I expect during my appointment?
Each appointment varies, but as a new client, you can expect to meet with a Client Mentor who will fill out an intake form from the general information you provide. We recommend you make an appointment. Most appointments are one hour in length and will be tailored to meet your specific needs. Walk-in pregnancy tests are welcome at any time during our normal business hours. You will receive a self-administered pregnancy test.
What sort of pregnancy tests do you offer?
We use Precious Feet™ Premium hCG pregnancy tests. This is a highly accurate test which can detect pregnancy hormones in your urine days before your missed period. Results are available within four minutes. We are not a medical clinic and do not conduct any blood testing.
Do you only speak English?
We do not have Spanish-speaking Client Mentors at the Laurel County Life Center. However, we do offer some educational resources, Bibles, and video material in the Spanish language.
Do you offer referrals for abortion or birth control?
We do not perform nor refer for abortion or birth control. We are committed to giving you the best and most accurate information on all your options, including information on pregnancy development, abortion procedures, and sexual risks.
What is Earn While You Learn?
For established clients who are either pregnant or are two years old and under, we offer a parenting program which allows you to meet with a Client Mentor on a regular basis. These educational sessions include an individualized video/DVD curriculum. Each one-hour parenting class earns you points that can be redeemed in our "Baby & Mommy Room." New clients are eligible for a free baby bed and mattress, pack-n-play, or car seat after 12 parenting sessions. Childcare is not provided, but you are welcome to attend by yourself or with a partner or friend.
How can you offer your services free of charge?
Laurel County Life Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit service organization. We receive most of our funds and material resources from individuals and private organizations which have a heart for the community. Because of their generosity, all of our services are free of charge.
Are you affiliated with any other organizations?
Laurel County Life Center is an independent, local pregnancy help center that has been serving our community since 1995. We are no longer an affiliate with Care Net. We are affiliates of Heartbeat International and NIFLA.
